Amina Bouayach welcomes the new members of the CRDH of the Souss-Massa Region

Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) stressed that the Regional Human Rights Commissions’ (CRDHs) actions enable to follow up the situation of human rights in different regions in Morocco. They also provide interaction and communication with citizens, actors, and NGOs working at the regional level on human rights issues.

This statement was made on the occasion of the installation of the new members of the CRDH of  the Souss-Massa Region on 18 September 2020 in Agadir, Morocco.

The 21 CRDH members are proposed by the regional representative of judges, lawyers, ministry of education, the Higher Ulema Council, doctors, professional journalists, and civil society, in addition to several activists working in protecting and promoting human rights.

In this regard, the CNDH Chairperson affirmed that the composition of the CRDH respects the principle of plurality and diversity in terms of the members’ experiences and fields of their work that is in line with the CNDH missions and prerogatives as stipulated in its reorganizing law.

Ms. Bouayach also indicated that the new CRDHs’ mandate is distinguished by the establishment of the permanent committee on following-up and assessing public policies besides the permanent committee on the protection and promotion of human rights as part of the CNDH strategy to consolidate the effectiveness of human rights. This new permanent committee was established following the increasing claims of economic and social rights by citizens.

To be noted that the experience of establishing regional human rights commissions at the Moroccan National Human Rights Institution is among the few experiences witnessed by the world including Mexico and others. The CRDHs are considered as a mechanism enabling to follow up the situation of human rights at the regional level through the implementation of the CNDH programs and projects at the regional level in cooperation with all relevant actors.
