CNDH calls on Moroccan authorities to vote for the UN resolution calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty

The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) calls on Moroccan authorities to vote in favor of the United Nations resolution calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, next session of the Third Committee of the General Assembly (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues), in the run-up to the General Assembly's vote on this resolution in December 2020.

The CNDH considers that the death penalty is an anti-constitutional act.

The CNDH underlines that the vote of the kingdom in favor of this resolution is the implementation of Article 20 of the Constitution that states that the right to life is the most fundamental right of every human being which shall be protected by law. It is a necessary step to transform the de facto moratorium on the use of the death penalty into a legal moratorium. This vote is also an occasion to further public debate and raising awareness on the human dimension of the legal abolition of the death penalty.
