A CCDH Delegation in the HRC 8th Session

A delegation from the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), composed of Mrs Amina Lemrini, Mr Driss Ajbali and Mr Chouaib Doulkifel, respectively CCDH members and an administrative executive, will attend on June 2-8, 2008, in Geneva, the proceedings of the 8th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC).

The session, to be held in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, will tackle for the first time the results of the Universal Periodic Review on the performance of the obligations of states considered in the first group under this new mechanism.

During this session, the HRC will ratify the reports and hold interactive dialogues on its special procedures related to the rights of displaced persons; extra-legal, summary or arbitrary executions; independence of judges and lawyers, the right to education; human rights and extreme poverty; human rights, trans-national corporations and other corporations; the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the situation of human rights in Haiti. An interactive discussion will also be held to look into the outline of the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Also, the HRC will address in special sessions the situation in Myanmar, the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the food crisis in the world.

It is worth mentioning that Mrs Amina Lemrini, a CCDH member and president of the CCDH Working Group on the Promotion of the Human Rights Culture, will present a report on the progress of the CCDH work in the field of the human rights education on June 4, 2008 at 3 p.m. Also, the consideration of the Universal Periodic Review concerning Morocco, presented at the seventh session, will take place on June 9, 2008 at 3 p.m.

Top
