CNDH SG VISITS DETAINEES FROM BELLIRAJ’S GROUP AND OTHERS CONVICTED UNDER TERRORISM LAW

On 18 March 2011, at the prison of Salé and the central prison of Kénitra.

Secretary General of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Mr. Mohammed Sebbar, visited some detainees from Belliraj’s group and others convicted under terrorism law, upon their request, on 18 March 2011, at the prison of Salé and the central prison of Kénitra.

This visit is in line with the Council’s mandate relative to making necessary and appropriate efforts for mediation and conciliation.

Mr. Sebbar listened to the detainees’ requests, mainly those relative to their trail conditions and process. The detainees stressed the importance of finding possible political solutions to achieve a broad political opening.

Mr. Sebar emphasized the importance of guaranteeing fair trial conditions and called for a constructive dialogue with all stakeholders to promote the role of institutions and restore citizens’ trust in these institutions.

The SG met with Belliraj’s group detainees at the prison of Salé, in the presence of the General Delegate of and officials from the Prison Administration and a representative of the Public Prosecution. He met with the other detainees at the central prison in Kénitra, in the presence of a central director of the prison administration.
