END OF RECONSTRUCTION WORKS OF CHOUHADA SQUARE IN FRONT OF THE ADVISORY COUNCIL ON HUMAN RIGHTS

The Advisory Council on Human Rights organized a ceremony to mark the end of the reconstruction works of the Chouhada Square.

Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, CCDH President, Mr. Fathallah Oualalou, Mayor of the city of Rabat, Mr. Mohamed Acherki, President of the Constitutional Council, Mr. Khalid Ouaya, Director of the Urban Agency of Rabat-Salé, the Imam of the Mosque of Chouhada and CCDH members were present to celebrate this event. Institutional, private sector and civil society stakeholders were also invited.

The “Nassr” association for the deaf and dumb, “Nomad Theatre” and the “Moroccan Association for Aide to Children in Precarious Situation” (AMSIP) participated in the animation of the ceremony. Several citizens attended the ceremony.

The Square was reconstructed to be an open space for citizens. Several benches were built on this marble square. Palm trees, a fountain and soft light spots add beauty to beauty. The reconstruction works of the Square, made in partnership between the Advisory Council and the Council of the City of Rabat, lasted six months.

Mr. Ahmed Herzenni indicated that the Square has a long history and a great symbolic, particularly during the Protectorate and after independence. He specified that the reconstruction of this place is a way to rehabilitate this historical space.

For his part, Mr. Fathallah Oualalou stressed that this place combines citizenship values with its historic significance related to the national struggle and values of human rights because it is located in front of a national human rights institution.

Mr. Mohamed Acherki indicated that the Chouhda Square, in its new form, will add a particular beauty to this space which is replete with symbols and historical values.
