Announcement of new members of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Beni Mellal-Khenifra region

Ms. Amina Bouayach, President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) shed light on the CNDH’s strategy launched in September 2019 in her statement on the occasion of the announcement ceremony of members of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Beni Mellal-Khenifra region (CRDH) held on Friday, October 23, 2020, in Beni Mellal, Morocco.

This strategy is based on the effectiveness of human rights in a way that citizens feel that they live in a place that preserves their dignity and rights. Ms. Bouayach said that the CNDH considers that the legal arsenal has significantly improved. However, field monitoring demonstrates that citizens do not perceive the important process in Morocco. They do not experience the impact of this improvement in their daily living through access to various public services, including health, education, administration, etc.

As part of her intervention on the role of the regional commissions, Ms. Bouayach emphasized that they are essential mechanisms of proximity. They work to support the CNDH actions to monitor human rights violations and protect their victims. She also stressed that the strength of this mechanism is based on the plurality and diversity of its members’ competencies and their interaction. Therefore, regional commissions are an important source of suggestive power for the CNDH to fulfill its missions related to preventing, protecting, promoting human rights, etc.

This event was an opportunity for the CRDH president, new members, CNDH Chairperson, and her delegation to communicate and interact on different human rights issues related to the priority of the region.

The CRDH of Beni Mellal-Khenifra region is composed of 21 members proposed by the regional representative of judges, lawyers, education, the Higher Ulema Council, doctors, professional journalists, civil society, and several activists working on protecting and promoting human rights.
