CNDH takes part in the Forth Parliamentary Social Justice Forum

Mrs. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) was invited to take part in the opening session of the Forth Parliamentary Social Justice Forum, under the theme “social protection in Morocco: governance versus sustainable and universal access” on Wednesday 20 February 2019 at the House of Councillors.

This Forum was convened by the House of Councillors, in partnership with the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, and in collaboration with Westminster Foundation for democracy.

Mr. Saad Dine El Otmani, Head of Government, Mr. Hakim Benchammas, Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mr. Ahmed Reda Chami, President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council participated in this event as well as institutional, political, economic, social and civic actors, experts and academics.

The proceedings of this Forum brought into focus four topics: “Social protection: a comparative look”, “Governance of social protection systems “, “Targeting in social welfare schemes” and “Perpetuating and funding welfare schemes and social protection floors”.

During the opening session of this forum, the CNDH President confirmed that social justice is a multifaceted issue and requires a continuous work at several levels. She also stressed that resources, competences and efforts of several actors at different levels should be mobilized to meet the new challenges through innovative answers.

Furthermore, Mrs. Bouaych added that the new development model is a common ground for various dynamics and the framework under which should fall all our actions, sector strategies and initiatives. The success of this model is dependent upon the adoption of a human rights based approach, which should serve as its backbone.  Commitment to this approach is one of the main indicators for assessing public policies and rule of law.

The Forth Parliamentary Social Justice Forum was organized to celebrate International Day of Social Justice (20 February of each year) as approved by the United Nations since the 63rd session of the General Assembly in 2007. This Forum was also part of the institutional, public pluralistic and participatory dialogue hosted by the House of Councillors on the implementation of the Constitution and the enjoyment of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.
