Ms. Amina Bouayach chairs the ceremony of the installation of new members of the CRDH of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Region

As part of completing its structures, including its commissions, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) celebrated the installation of members of its Regional Human Rights Commission of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Region (CRDH) on 7 September 2020 in Dakhla, Morocco.

On this occasion, Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, welcomed the new members and  appreciated the work of former members. Most of the members are new ones that indicate that the institution adopted the rotation and deliberation principles in its CRDHs membership, she added. These contribute to increase the number of participants supporting the promotion of human rights issues.

The 21 CRDH members are composed of representatives of several professional organizations and NGOs, in addition to human rights activists who have experiences in fields related to economic, social, cultural, and environmental rights.

Ms. Bouayach also stressed that the CNDH is open to all actors, even those who are not represented in the CRDH, in order to work on human rights issues, including women, children, persons with disabilities, migrants, and refugees rights. She also affirmed that the CNDH is required to connect the achievements in civil, political, environmental and cultural rights with issues related to economic, social and cultural rights in this region.

This new CRDHs mandate is distinguished by the establishment of the permanent committee on following-up and assessing public policies besides the permanent committee on the protection and promotion of human rights, as part of the CNDH strategy to consolidate the effectiveness of human rights.

The installation of members of the CRDH of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Region is launching the installation of members of the 12 CRDHs in Morocco.

It is also part of the completion of the CNDH structures so that the CRDHs can exercise the Council’s powers at the level of the territory of each region, under Article 44 of Law 76.15 on the reorganization of the CNDH.

According to the CNDH law and its Rules of procedure, the regional Human Rights Commissions monitor and follow up on the human rights situation at the regional level. They elaborate thematic reports on human rights issues led by the CNDH Chairperson. They also ensure the implementation of the CNDH programs and projects at the regional level in cooperation with all relevant actors working on protecting and promoting human rights. Furthermore, CRDHs submit specific or periodic reports to the CNDH Chairperson on measures taken to handle complaints received within their competencies.
