CRDH of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region holds its Seventh Regular Meeting

The Human Rights Regional Commission of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (CRDH) held on Friday 23 December 2022, in Tangier, Morocco, its Seventh Regular Meeting to present its outcome since the last meeting and its achievements in 2022.

In her opening statement, Mrs. Soulma Taoud, CRDH President, highlighted the CRDH’s main actions conducted to protect human rights in the region. It includes receiving and handling complaints, investigations and correspondence with the relevant authorities. She also added that migration, violence against women, childhood, etc. are the most frequently complaints received by the CRDH.

Mrs. Taoud shed light on the CRDH prisons visits to investigate the prisoners’ conditions and intervene in cases of hunger strikes in the implementation of the "Practical Guide on Managing Hunger Strikes in Prisons".

Within the same context, the CRDH President noted the close cooperation with the Regional Directorate for Prison Administration and Reintegration and the positive interaction of several institutions with the CRDH, etc.

This meeting was an opportunity to share the annual outcome of the three Standing Committees (Protection, Promotion, and the Effectiveness of Human Rights), discuss the regional human rights issues and present the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) study on the judicial justifications for minor girls’ marriage. Besides, stakeholders approved the reports developed by the CRDH members.

Participants also stressed the importance of promoting human rights culture through schools and universities’ human rights clubs, advocating for inclusive education for children with disabilities to be successful, protecting minor girls from marriage, reforming the Family Code and continuing efforts to achieve the 2023 annual action plan.
