Partnership to promote diversity and fight against discrimination through media

The CNDH and the Media Diversity Institute signed on Monday, April 28 in Rabat, a partnership agreement for the promotion of the culture of human rights through media. Several training sessions and workshops on human rights and media are scheduled under this agreement.

In line with this agreement, a three-day training session was held on 28-29 April in Rabat, on the promotion of diversity and the culture of human rights through media. This training covered the techniques of building relations with the media, media campaigns, media plans to promote diversity, non-discrimination and minority rights, etc.

Diversity is a crucial feature recognized by the Moroccan Constitution, Mr. Driss El Yazami, CNDH Chairman, said, in the opening session of the training. He added that it’s important to protect and promote diversity, mainly through regional and national media outlets.

With the flow of migration, Morocco is home of different cultures, languages and religions, respect for diversity is obviously needed today more than ever.

The Media Diversity Institute (MDI) “works internationally to encourage and facilitate responsible media coverage of diversity. It aims to prevent the media from intentionally or unintentionally spreading prejudice, intolerance and hatred which can lead to social tensions, disputes and violent conflict. MDI encourages instead, fair, accurate, inclusive and sensitive media coverage in order to promote understanding between different groups and cultures.”
